WHITFORD MID-CENTURY MODERN New-Build Residence, Whitford
5,830 square metres of Whitford valley views, and a client with a passion for cars. It was always going to be an interesting brief.
Macfie Architecture designed a single-level mid-century modern residence that answers both ambitions without compromise - a 326-square-metre home of genuine architectural distinction, with a six-car garage that is as considered as every other element of the build.
Precast concrete gives the home its distinctive profile - clean, precise, and entirely at home against the valley backdrop. Floor-to-ceiling windows and stacking doors run throughout, ensuring the surrounding landscape is always present and that natural light moves freely through the plan from morning to dusk.
The home is arranged across two wings, each with its own logic. On one side, three bedrooms - each with a private balcony - offer generous, self-contained retreats. On the other, the master suite anchors a private world of its own: a lounge, walk-in wardrobe, and ensuite that together form something closer to a residence within a residence.
At the centre, an industrial-style minimal kitchen opens into an open-plan dining and living space that reaches outward to the balconies and grounds beyond. The valley views, ever-present, do the rest.
Project Scope: concept design, developed design, resource consent, building consent, on-site monitoring.
