ONEHUNGA BLACK BUNGALOW | Heritage Renovation
Some renovations mark the beginning of a longer story. This one turned out to be the first chapter in an ongoing relationship - and a record-breaking one at that.
A deteriorated heritage bungalow in Onehunga, the property had the external character worth preserving and the internal condition that demanded a complete rethink. Macfie Architecture undertook a meticulous renovation in 2018, restructuring the interior entirely while keeping the bungalow's exterior allure intact - the striking black exterior giving the home a presence on the street that belied the extent of the transformation within.
The reconfigured layout introduced spacious bedrooms, a generous family bathroom, walk-in wardrobe, and a master ensuite - the private spaces handled with the same care as the more visible ones. A new open-plan living, dining, and kitchen wing completed the picture, opening the home to natural light and outdoor connection in a way the original bungalow had never managed.
Two years later, our clients achieved a record sale price for the property. The next chapter took them out of Auckland entirely - to a newly built Macfie Architecture home in Mount Maunganui, a project that felt like a natural continuation of a relationship built on trust.
A record result in Onehunga. And the beginning of something more.
Project Scope - concept design, developed design, resource consent, building consent, on-site monitoring.
